This policy explains how DownWitch ("we", "us", "the Service") handles information when you visit downwitch.com or use the downloader. It covers the site itself, our extraction backend, and the third-party advertising described in section 4.

We are the data controller for the limited processing described here. For any privacy question or request, email [email protected].

1. The short version

No account, no sign-up, and we never ask for your Twitch credentials.
The links you paste are used to fulfil that one request and are not stored.
Your downloads do not pass through any storage we control.
We do not sell your personal information, and we never have.
We do show advertising, and ad providers set their own cookies. That is the one place third parties are involved — see section 4.

2. What we collect

We deliberately avoid collecting anything we don't need to run the Service.

The Twitch link you submit. Sent to our backend so it can look up the video's public metadata and resolve a download URL. It is processed for that request and not written to any database or log we keep.
Technical request data. Like any website, our infrastructure briefly handles your IP address, user agent and the time of the request. This is inherent to how the internet works and is used for delivering the response, security and abuse prevention.
Your theme preference. Whether you chose light or dark is kept in your browser's local storage. It never reaches us.
Anything you email us. If you use the contact form or write to us directly, we keep that correspondence so we can reply.

We do not collect names, addresses, payment details or Twitch account information, because nothing in the Service requires them.

3. How your downloads are handled

This is worth stating precisely, because it is the part people most want to know.

For clips, our backend resolves the signed URL and the file streams from Twitch's CDN through it to your browser. For past broadcasts, the segments are fetched and then assembled into an MP4 inside your browser — that work happens on your own device, not on a server. In neither case is your video written to disk anywhere on our side, and we keep no copy, no thumbnail and no record of what you downloaded.

4. Advertising and cookies

DownWitch is free to use and is funded by advertising. To do that we work with third-party ad providers, including Google, whose AdSense programme may serve ads on this site.

You should know the following:

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites.
Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to our site and other sites on the internet.
These vendors may collect information such as your IP address, device and browser characteristics, and interactions with the ads shown.
We do not control these cookies, and we do not receive the personal information they collect. We see only aggregate reporting such as impression and revenue totals.

You can opt out of personalised advertising at any time:

5. Who processes data for us

We keep the list of third parties deliberately short. Each one acts as a processor or independent controller for a specific, narrow purpose.

Cloudflare — hosting, DNS and the edge network that runs our extraction backend. Handles request data in transit.
Google AdSense — advertising delivery and measurement, as described above.
Twitch (Amazon) — the source of every video. When you download, you are ultimately requesting a file from Twitch's own CDN, and their privacy notice applies to that.

6. Why we're allowed to process it (GDPR)

If you are in the UK or EEA, our legal bases are:

Legitimate interests — for delivering the Service, keeping it secure and preventing abuse.
Consent — for personalised advertising cookies, where consent is required. You may withdraw it at any time.
Legitimate interests — for replying to correspondence you start.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have the right to access, correct, delete, port or restrict the personal data we hold about you, and to object to processing. Under the GDPR you may also complain to your local supervisory authority.

If you are a California resident, the CCPA/CPRA gives you the right to know what is collected, to request deletion, to correct inaccuracies, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined, and we do not knowingly process the data of anyone under 16 for advertising purposes.

To exercise any of these, email [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days. In practice, because we hold almost nothing tied to an individual, an access or deletion request will often come back confirming there is nothing on file — that is the intended outcome of the design, not an evasion.

8. How long we keep things

Submitted links: not retained after the request completes.
Downloaded video data: never stored.
Infrastructure and security logs: short-lived, and handled by Cloudflare.
Email correspondence: kept while the matter is open, then periodically cleared.
Theme preference: until you clear your browser storage.

9. International transfers

Our infrastructure and our advertising provider operate globally, so data may be processed outside your country, including in the United States. Where that involves personal data from the UK or EEA, transfers rely on the safeguards those providers maintain, such as Standard Contractual Clauses.

10. Security

The site is served over HTTPS and is fully static, which removes whole categories of risk: there is no user database to breach and no login to compromise. Our backend holds no persistent store of your activity. No system is perfectly secure, but the smallest attack surface is the one that holds nothing worth taking.

11. Children's privacy

DownWitch is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, email us and we will delete it.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the Service or the law changes. The "last updated" date at the top always reflects the current version, and material changes will be described there rather than made quietly.
