How to download a Twitch clip
Open the clip on Twitch and copy the address. Clip links come in two shapes —
clips.twitch.tv/SomeClipSlug when you use the Share button, and
twitch.tv/channel/clip/SomeClipSlug when you are browsing a
channel's clip list. Either one works. Paste it into the box at the top of this

How to download a Twitch VOD or highlight
Past broadcasts and highlights live under twitch.tv/videos/ followed
by a numeric ID. Open the video from a channel's Videos tab, copy the URL, and
paste it in. A multi-hour broadcast is a large file, so give the transfer time —
DownWitch streams it straight through without re-encoding, which is why the
quality stays identical to what the streamer uploaded.
One difference worth knowing about, even though it's invisible in use: clips are stored as MP4 files, but broadcasts are stored as segmented streams. There is no MP4 sitting on Twitch's servers for a VOD. So the segments are reassembled and repackaged into MP4 inside your browser, which is why a VOD shows a progress bar where a clip downloads straight away.
This is a container change, not a conversion. The H.264 video and AAC audio are copied across exactly as Twitch served them — no re-encode, no quality loss, and no server sitting in the middle re-compressing your video. On Chrome and Edge the file is written to disk as it's built, so a six-hour broadcast is limited only by free space. Firefox and Safari lack that API and have to assemble it in memory, which is fine for clips and short VODs but can exhaust the tab on a long one.
Source quality and 60fps
Twitch publishes several renditions of each video. DownWitch lists every MP4 variant it finds, sorted best first, and marks the top one as Source. Where a 60fps rendition exists you'll see it labelled as such (for example 1080p60), so you can keep the smooth framerate that makes gameplay clips watchable instead of settling for a 30fps re-encode.

Why can't I download a live stream?
A live channel has no finished file to hand over — it is still being produced. Most streamers automatically publish a past broadcast when they end the stream, so wait for the VOD to appear on the channel's Videos tab and download that instead. If a streamer has VOD saving switched off, there is nothing to fetch.
